Whoa nelly.

What a wild Wednesday.

Hope you guys aren’t too shaken up after that earthquake.

Not to be too serious about it, because I don’t think it hit anyone here too badly, but hopefully everyone closer up by Ukiah / Redwood Valley is okay. I saw some people saying it was fake or the alerts were fake, but I did not really dig in too much. Seemed real to me. I definitely noticed a little shake, but nothing crazy.

Anyways, we are in for a good weekend game plan.

I do not know if this was planned, but musically it is definitely looking like a boomer rock weekend. Johnny Cash. Jerry’s Middle Finger. The Doors.

Other than that, we have a handful of neat free stuff that some local orgs have planned, including a ranger-led hike at Westwood Hills and a family wellness carnival.

So that is the shape of the weekend. But first, trivia.

Trivia: What was the magnitude of the 2014 South Napa earthquake?

A. 4.8
B. 5.2
C. 6.0
D. 6.7

Napa Accidentally Booked a Time Machine

I did not get the memo, but apparently this weekend is all 60s and 70s tribute bands.

Which is convenient if you believe that was the best period of music ever. Or if you are related to someone who believes that very loudly.

Either way, Napa has a weirdly strong tribute-band run this weekend, so here we go in order.

James Garner’s Tribute to Johnny Cash

Friday night black-shirt energy. Johnny Cash tribute show. Native Sons Hall. Not complicated.

Friday, June 26, 7 to 9 p.m.
Native Sons Hall, 937 Coombs Street, Napa
Tickets: $39 advance, $50 at the door

Jerry’s Middle Finger

Bring comfortable shoes, patience for solos, and maybe one friend who knows what is happening.

Saturday, June 27, 8 p.m.
Napa Music Hall, 1030 Main Street, Napa
Tickets: about $49.55 standard admission through Ticketmaster

The Ultimate Doors: Tribute to The Doors

And then Sunday night goes full Doors.

Which is a little aggressive for a Sunday, but in a way I respect.

Most people spend Sunday night preparing emotionally for Monday. Some people go hear a Doors tribute band at the Uptown and pretend Monday is still a rumor.

Sunday, June 28, doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m.
Uptown Theatre Napa, 1350 Third Street, Napa
Ages 12+
Tickets: listed from about $42.75, though availability/prices may vary

Now for the Free Stuff

First up: Westwood Hills.

Hike with a Napa Park Ranger

We all love Westwood Hills, and this is a great weekend to get outside.

City of Napa park rangers are leading a free 1-to-2-mile hike through the park, with stops to talk about local wildlife, native plants, and the history of Westwood Hills.

Good one with the kids.

And honestly, kind of a nice excuse to get to know the park rangers, who have one of those jobs that sounds awesome because it basically involves helping protect the beautiful outdoor stuff we all casually benefit from and then forget to appreciate.

Space is limited to 15 people, so this is one of the rare free things where “we’ll just show up” may not be the move.

Saturday, June 27, 9 to 11 a.m.
Westwood Hills Park
Free
Ages 6 and up

CRC Family Wellness Carnival

Next up, Community Resources for Children has a Family Wellness Carnival on Saturday morning.

This is another good one if you have kids, know kids, or are just generally in the market for something useful and local that does not require overthinking.

Free family activities, local resource tables, and the kind of community event that is probably much more helpful than it sounds when you are just reading a calendar listing.

Saturday, June 27, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Community Resources for Children, 3299 Claremont Way, Suite 1, Napa
Free

Well, that is some of the cool stuff I found going on this weekend.

There is a lot more out there too, but honestly, there is only so much we can responsibly cram into the 48 hours we are allotted before work on Monday.

The rain front seems like it brought in some cooler weather, and the worst of the heat appears to be gone for now, so enjoy the outdoors a little. Maybe snag one of those ranger / Westwood Hills spots if you can.

But you probably do not need me to remind you that Westwood Hills is a good idea.

And the answer to today’s trivia:

C. 6.0.

The 2014 South Napa earthquake was a magnitude 6.0, which is probably why every little shake around here still gets everyone’s full attention.

See you all Monday morning for our town notes on what is going on for the upcoming week.

Callie
