Napa Lowdown history. You all were here for it.
After months of consistency, we finally did it:
Monday, February 16 was the first time the town notes didn’t drop.
Usually we send it out right around 6:00 am, but this past Monday I let you down. Not because I dropped the ball on the actual work - I just mixed up AM and PM.
So yeah. sorry. consider this weekend game plan my peace offering.
The Most Scenic Endurance Event In The World
Here’s the big one for this weekend: NV Marathon and Half Marathon.
If you haven’t signed up already, I’m sorry to break it to you but it’s way too late. The important thing for the rest of us is being aware of the road closures this Sunday.
Quick course refresher:
Full marathon starts up-valley in Calistoga and finishes at Vintage High School.
Half marathon starts near Conn Creek Winery (Silverado Trail near the Hwy 128 area) and finishes at Vintage High School.
So expect rolling closures on portions of Silverado Trail, Oak Knoll Ave, Big Ranch Rd, and El Centro Ave in that range from 7:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
If you’re running or cheering someone on, best of luck. Reply with a photo if you go. I won’t be able to make it, but I would love to see the vibes.
Mustard Season Is Back…
And Napa is already trying to monetize it…
Brands and orgs are rolling out the mustard season events like it’s opening weekend of Christmas season.
St. Helena has a mustard celebration pop up this weekend at the welcome center: link and I am seeing way more in the pipeline as we head into March.
Full transparency…I’m not a big mustard girl. I don’t totally know what’s going on. Is it actually popping off out there yet? Please. Let me know.
Visit Napa Valley has a mustard season map, but I would rather hear it from you all. If you have a favorite drive, best view point, or don’t bother it's not blooming yet update, hit reply. I would love to share the best tips in an upcoming issue - credit if you want it, or anonymous is totally fine too.
ISO The Best Open Mics
Tough to keep track of all of them. Napa has a whole ecosystem of undiscovered talent popping in and out whether it’s music, poetry, storytelling, you name it.
I know I am asking for a lot of feedback today, but I want to build a quick calendar of the ones that are actually active and quite good.
Here are the ones already on my radar:
Barnhouse - either Sunday from 4:00-6:00pm (sign-ups at 3:30) but this one is super informal (can kind of just walk in…)
Napa Elks Lodge - every Thursday 6:30-9:30pm (sign-ups at 6:00)
Rebel Vitners - every Monday 6:00-8:00 pm
Napa Library - last thursday of the month 6:00-7:30 pm
Reply and tell me which ones are the best - and if I’m missing any staples, send them my way.
That’s it for this week.
Shoutout to all of you for being here.
Thank you so much for being here, say it every week but it means the world.
Have a great weekend. See you next Monday.
Callie
